Tamara Thomas Dance presents - Overcoming Inertia

Independent Artists Tamara Thomas, lecturer at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, presents her first independent project titled “OVERCOMING INERTIA” on Friday July 5, 2013 and Saturday July 6, 2013 at 7:00pm at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts – School of Dance – Studio Theatre.

The two evenings of work will integrate hip-hop, Guinea dance, Sabar, Jamaican folk, Umfundalai and Modern into a rich tapestry of social and emotional movement experiences.  The program includes an array of newer and older choreography that has been created over the past three years by Tamara Thomas.  Pieces such as “Fya Wata Muma” and “Obatala – Revisited” will straddle the fence in re-envisioned folk forms juxtaposed against sounds of jazz and spoken word.  The topics that will be discussed in the evening of work, such as critical love, individual and community values, ancestral reverence and perseverance, are discussions that are pressing in our current lived spaces.

Following each show will be a talk back that allows the audience to engage the choreographer and dancers in the creative and performance process.  With experienced dancers and critical and exciting dance, the evening proves to be quite refreshing and vital to the rich dancescape.

A lecture demonstration targeting the youth population will take place on Friday July 5 at 1:00 at the School of Dance – Studio Theatre.

Tickets for Friday July 5 are $1,000.00 and tickets for Saturday July 6 are $1,500.00 as there is a reception following the show.  More information about Tamara Thomas Dance and OVERCOMING INERTIA can be gathered at http://tamarathomasdance.wix.com/tamarathomasdance and https://www.facebook.com/TamaraThomasDance
